Subject: AWCA Distance Learning Program
Dear Wing Chun/ Ving Tsun/ Wing Tsun friends and colleagues,
ince its inception in 2003, the AWCA Distance Learning Program has helped practitioners all over the world realize their dreams of learning this phenomenal martial art, with participation in a variety of countries such as:
NEW! CONTINUED LEARNING EXTENSION SCHOOL (CLES)
For those interested in training with fellow DLP practitioners in your area, the AWCA has instituted a new Study Group Leader program that is just getting started. Termed the AWCA Continued Learning Extension School (CLES), local DLP practitioners have formed study groups for inviting others to train with.
Our first three CLES offerings are the AWCA - Teesside, UK in the United Kingdom, the AWCA - Metrolina, NC program in Metrolina, North Carolina, and the AWCA - El Paso, TX program in El Paso, Texas (Kern Place). Check them out if you are in their areas, and as more schools come online, you will see them listed here, as well as in our Links and Site Map sections.

Distance learning is accepted world-wide as a viable means for gaining knowledge about any topic, regardless of what that topic is.
And the martial arts are certainly no exception.
There "are" some Wing Chun-related distance programs currently available, but the problem that I have seen in all of them (so far) is that:
 |
They do not incorporate proven distance learning principles.
|
 |
They do not understand the methods of distance learning vs. a classroom environment.
|
 |
They do not educate themselves on how to provide approved distance learning programs.
|
 |
They do not understand the resources available to the user of today's technology. |
For example, what do you see when you examine other distance programs? In all cases thus far, they consist of a stack of tapes or DVD's, and maybe a few manuals. A participant is expected (and required) to wade through all of this massive information on their own, and then after a few months - maybe even a year or more - physically travel to the school itself in order to demonstrate what they have learned.
Well, if you won the lottery and have that kind of money (not to mention the time), that's fine. But who can realistically do that? Ensuring the tradition of Wing Chun skill is certainly expected, but there are viable alternatives in today's world for accomplishing the same thing with competent results.
How Does The Program Work?
The AWCA Distance Learning Program encompasses the same curriculum structure that we use in our gym. A student wouldn't learn the entire form in one session, so why would they be barraged with it in a DLP? We teach in core blocks of instruction, and that is also how the DLP is structured.
The program is delivered in blocks of training that correspond to the eBook Training Series, and it is learned at your own pace. This has shown to be quite effective for those that have a lot of time to devote to their studies, as well as those that are pressed for time and only have 15 or 30 minutes a few times a week.
So how does it work?
 |
The core training begins with Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau. This workbook includes the foundation of what you will be training in.
|
 |
Each month you will receive a DVD to supplement your workbook studies. The DVD consists of Forms Training, Drills and applications of the relevant form area, and the Concepts and Theories that makes these elements work cohesively.
Each DVD consists of two to three movements, the drills "for" those movements, and the concepts/ theories "discussing" the movements.
|
 |
Sifu Phil Bradley introduces the movements with a brief discussion, followed by the form element and solo drills to work them.
|
 |
The solo drills are then applied with a partner for learning how to train the applications.
|
 |
The DVD ends with a recap of the lessons learned and a bit more about the concepts "behind" the movements in order to reinforce the training you just learned.
|
 |
Simply train what you see throughout the month and at your own pace, giving you ample time to create a realistic skill set in thse movements.
|
 |
A brand new DVD arrives the next month with the next two to three lessons, and this is repeated for the entire duration of your enrollment.
In a very short time, you have learned Wing Chun in a step-by-step manner, and using the same curriculum that is learned at the AWCA. |
|
|
|
Sounds easy, huh? Well, that's because it is! Naturally, attaining a skill set for any physical activity takes time, dedication, and perseverance, so most assuredly this is not the kind of program for those that think that just watching a few videos will be rewarded with rank.
Instead, it is for those who are serious about wanting to learn real Wing Chun for self-defense, as well as for those who want to start their own AWCA affiliate branches. It takes time and dedication, but I have ensured that each lesson is provided to remove the barriers that you will find with other DLP programs.
IVTKFF-Approved
The AWCA Distance Learning Program's curriculum has been reviewed and approved by the International Ving Tsun Kung Fu Federation (IVTKFF), and the delivery method has also been reviewed by certified distance learning educators. Their feedback and guidance for how the program is constructed and delivered has been instrumental for ensuring that we maintain compliance to approved distance learning standards.

Officially-recognized AWCA Ranking
Your membership in the AWCA Distance Learning Program includes the same ranking certificates and patches as presented to personal students of Sifu Phil Bradley. There is no distinction between a student training here and a student participating in the DLP.
Student Grades 1 - 6 are achievable by submitting recorded performances via video (VHS tape, CD, DVD, etc.), and/or webcam testing sessions. Student Grades 7 - 9 are achievable only by webcam sessions or personal testing.
Beyond Student Grade 9, feedback is provided but the actual testing is conducted in person either here at the AWCA or during an annual Training Camp. This allows us to ensure that our standards are being met by viewing your performance in real-time, and it gives YOU more opportunities for increasing your training with official rank recognition and verification.
For more information on what the AWCA ranking levels are comprised of, click here.

Webcam Feedback and Testing Sessions
Our webcam option is now available! Each week, you will have the opportunity of asking questions and demonstrating your skills for direct feedback with Sifu Phil Bradley. Not only will this provide instant feedback, but it will also save you time and money by not having to record your performances to tape or CD, sending them through postal mail (where it can get damaged or lost), waiting for review, etc.
Instead, you get instant feedback right then, right there!

Bonus #1: "How To Train Wing Chun"
(Value: $24.95)

Originally created for my personal students, I decided to also make this special eBook report available to all members of the AWCA Distance Learning Program.
Enrollment requires Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau, so your membership automatically qualifies you to receive it!
Chapters include:
-
"The Five Stages of Learning" - Understanding the five stages of learning teaches how to take a simple process and apply it to any level of training.
-
"Forms Training" - A variety of keypoints are illustrated for each form so that we are focusing on the right area in order to get the MOST out of what we are doing.
-
"Specialized Training" - Utilizing Chi-sau, Lap-sau, and Chi-gerk to our sparring sessions.
-
"Creating Power" - Still having problems generating the type of power you "should" be? This section will show how to get the most power out of every strike.
-
"Staying Relaxed" - Wing Chun requires a calm, relaxed "explosive" nature in order to deliver our methods. Here you will learn how to remain relaxed throughout your rigorous training and sparring sessions.
-
"Reality vs. Classroom" - Many will approach their training from unrealistic viewpoints, never knowing for sure if what they are learning will really work. In this chapter, I'll show you how to keep your training at a realistic level.

Bonus #2: Access to the AWCA Members-Only Bulletin Board
(Value: $250.00)
With tips, pointers, and training advice from practitioners all over the world, this well-rounded members-only bulletin board offers a great deal of training advice from beginners through advanced practitioners alike.

What This Program Is and Is Not
In case you are still wondering, let me make it perfectly clear that this program is NOT an informational package. You will not find the entire form or complete system on one DVD. Those kinds of programs do nothing but satisfy one's curiosity and are marketed to the masses for demonstrating what Wing Chun looks like vs. providing a real teaching tool.
Instead, this is a full-featured training program that will walk you through learning the martial art of Wing Chun. And if you put in the time, then you will learn. However, it does require that you actually train it.
Our program is a learning program, a program that is designed for you to train and learn the skills. If you are thinking that you can just watch the DVD's repeatedly and "magically" obtain a physical skill set, you are incorrect. No matter how many times you watch something, it will never create the motor skills to actually perform it efficiently.
The AWCA DLP is designed to get you off the couch and into a regular Wing Chun training program. Period.
So if you are looking for an entire form or the complete system in one sitting? You are in the wrong place because our program is nothing of this sort. Those type of programs do nothing for real learning.
However, if you are interested in actually learning Wing Chun? Then you will not be disappointed with the AWCA Distance Learning Program.
Feedback and Testing
Because of our webcam training sessions, each week you will have the opportunity of asking questions and demonstrating your skills for direct feedback with Sifu Phil Bradley.
Not only will this provide instant feedback, but it will also save you time and money by not having to record your performances to tape or CD, sending them through postal mail (where it can get damaged or lost), waiting for review, etc. Instead, you get instant feedback right then, right there!
A Note To Experienced Practitioners
A variety of current Wing Chun/ Ving Tsun/ Wing Tsun practitioners have expressed interest in the AWCA DLP, and rightly so. A structured program like this is also excellent for current practitioners and instructors since it gives them the tools for teaching their own students. From those with just a few months to those with years and years of training, many practitioners have opted to continue their training with us.
It is my pleasure to help anyone and everyone with continuing their studies of this fascinating art, and I will do everything I can to assist you in that. It is also important, however, to remember what this program is before "jumping in."
Every school has their own unique way of teaching, and what we pass on is as I have learned it. I continue to pass on what I learned and in the manner I learned it, but I also introduce extended concepts I have learned from a variety of colleagues and masters along my journey.
All AWCA members must be skilled with this curriculum and step-by-step training method. Therefore, even if you have completed the Wing Chun system in its entirety at another school, I must still ensure that you are versed in our curriculum.
To that end, videos of your performance must be submitted for evaluation in order to know where in our training you would be placed, as well as what needs to be learned for our methods.
For example, if you have learned all of the empty-hand forms, the wooden dummy and weapons, you would submit videos of your performances for evaluation. It is not to tell you "what is right" or "what is wrong;" rather, it is to know where in our ranking structure you would be placed, as well as what needs to be worked on in order to relate the AWCA curriculum to others.
Not all WC/ VT schools have such a structured program, and because of this - even with years of experience and training - a high-level instructor might find him/herself in a much lower level of training with our program. It is not because we are "better" than anyone else; instead, it is simply because we have a step-by-step program and a set way of passing on what we do. Depending on how close your previous training is to what we do and how we do it, this will determine where in our program you would fall in to.
Additionally, this ensures that all practitioners actually possess the skills they claim to possess, as well as ensuring that the AWCA training curriculum is being passed on correctly and completely.
Registration and Fees
Registration and monthly fees are cost-effective in their own right, but even more so when you consider what personal training in a gym would cost.
Gym training can see monthly fees as high as $120.00 a month, every month, and that does not even include the time you spend getting there and back, the money spent for gas, the time away from your family, etc.
For one month's of fees at a gym, this is equivalent to FOUR months of training with the AWCA Distance Learning Program! You can already see the cost-savings associated with our program.
For many schools, you also have to sign a contract. Regardless of whether you attend or not, you are locked into that contract, and you are instantly out an exorbitant amount of money before you have even had your first lesson.
But not at the AWCA. I do not believe in contracts. You are here because of your dedication to Wing Chun, not because you have to be here. And that is all that contracts do. They are for the organization to ensure that money keeps coming in, and I do not believe in that.

Before the AWCA DLP, I was paying $90.00 a month with a contract that I couldn't get out of at another school, and I STILL wasn't learning as much as I've learned with this program. Thanks, Sifu Phil!

The core of the program begins with Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau of our eBook Training Series, and since many customers have expressed an interest in joining the AWCA DLP, there are two options for enrollment.
If you do not have Volume 1, you will choose Option A. If you do have Volume 1, then you will choose Option B.
|
Option A |
|
|
(if you don't have "Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau") |
$80.00 enrollment |
 |
Option B
|
|
|
(if you do have "Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau") |
$60.00 enrollment |
 |
Monthly Fees
|
|
|
(monthly fees begin 30 days after enrollment) |
$30.00 monthly membership fee |
Whether choosing Option A or Option B, your DLP training package includes:
|
DVD: "Introduction to the AWCA"
A 10 minute DVD explaining who the AWCA is, what we're about, how the program functions, and what you can expect during your training.
Many forms of instruction push you right into training without any background or explanation of "who" is doing the teaching or the organization providing it, but in my view, that's backwards.
If you were personally training at a school, you would want to know "something" about the school, wouldn't you? In the same manner, this introductory DVD discusses the AWCA and my history so that you know who we are and where our training comes from.
It also discusses the program itself in more detail, how it is created, a bit of background into it, and what you can expect from it.
|
|
DVD: "Siu-Nim-Tau, Section 1"
A 20 minute DVD that introduces the first lessons of section 1 from the Siu-Nim-Tau curriculum and gets you off to a good start. |
|
| |
The most important element of Wing Chun is the Siu-Nim-Tau, and having a proper foundation and arm structure is of paramount importance. Without it, everything else to come will mean little to nothing.
This DVD takes you through the stance, works the leg structure and foundation, teaches proper breathing (as well as "why"), and also teaches:
-
The proper mechanics of forms training for Gow-cha-Tan-sau (Crossed Double Palm-Up arm)
-
The proper mechanics of forms training for Gow-cha-Gaun-sau (Crossed Double Splitting-Block arm)
-
The proper mechanics of forms training for Kwun-sau (Rotating-arm/ Twisting-arm), and
-
Wing Chun's punch, the Yat-chi-cheung-kuen (Character "Sun" Thrusting punch).
|
|
Reminder: DVD's are created on the DVD+R format. Please ensure that your player of choice can view DVD+R formatted DVD's prior to enrolling.
|
|

Not only will you find a wealth of training information to further your studies, but I have also been working on creating videos for teaching you how to create your own videos for testing and feedback.
