So what makes the AWCA Distance Learning Program so effective?
The AWCA Distance Learning Program
The AWCA Distance Learning Program has evolved to become a one-of-a-kind martial arts training platform. Our program is challenging, rewarding and focused on your progress. You have the goal of learning real Wing Chun Kuen, and the AWCA Distance Learning Program will help you reach that goal.

Accessible 24/7 from any PC, smart phone or tablet
- Your Wing Chun journey begins with Student Grade 1. Simply open the Student Grade 1 Study Guide and work step-by-step through each hi-def MP4 video in order. Each video covers every facet of training required to achieve Student Grade 1 (section 1 of the Siu-Nim-Tau).
- You will also be using the AWCA’s official training curriculum, Volume 1: Siu-Nim-Tau for more learning and knowledge enhancement.
- Along the way, you will undoubtedly have questions or need feedback. And that is why Si-Fu Phil is here to help! No question is too big or too small, so anytime you have a question or need help, Si-Fu Phil is an email or phone call away.
- When you are ready to test, you have the option of either scheduling a private webcam session or sending your test via video through email or DVD. You have a range of options available to meet your needs.
- If you pass your test, you are granted access to the Student Grade 2 section and continue with your studies at the next level. If more work needs to be done, Si-Fu will guide you through this to help you understand what to do and how to do it. The level of assistance is unparalleled!
- Passing each level includes receiving the appropriate rank patch and certificate, included with your monthly membership. There are no extra fees required!
What This Program Is & Is Not
In case you are wondering, let me make it perfectly clear what this program is and is not.
The AWCA Distance Learning Program is NOT an information-only package. You will not find the complete system available in one sitting. Those kinds of programs are for mass-marketing the system to the public and are excellent to watch, but they do nothing for real-world training or creating a usable skill set.
I also do not honor requests to learn only specific levels. For example, some have asked to learn “only” the Biu-Tze, “only” the wooden dummy, etc. I do not believe in this type of training because it leaves out the core of the curriculum itself. Those who venture into learning specific areas and not training to competence what came before it are proven to be ineffective practitioners who are cheating themselves (as well as feeding their own ego).
You will most certainly find organizations and instructors out there that will do that, but the AWCA is not one of them.
Instead, this is a full-featured training program that takes you step-by-step through learning Wing Chun Kuen, start-to-finish. If you put in the time and effort, you will learn. If you want to skip steps in the curriculum, you should seek another program because we do not short-change our members by giving them a false sense of security.
So What Do Our Members Think?
Our members love their training curriculum and how we approach it. Some are brand new to Wing Chun while some have already learned quite a bit at other schools. A variety of our members are also active at other schools and simply want the additional resources we provide that their current school does not.
No matter the level or status, there is something for everyone here.
Hi Si-Fu Phil… Something happened the other day that I wanted to tell you about. As I was picking my wife up from work, I had an encounter with a guy (my fault but I immediately apologized, which he didn’t want to hear it).
Long story short, he took a swing at me, to which I used a rear-arm Fook-dar and then chain-punched him down. The rear-hand defense saved my life, so THANK YOU for making the DLP possible!

Si-Fu Phil… I want to personally thank you for making the AWCA Distance Learning Program available. Serving in the military and being deployed all over the world, attendance at a regular school is basically impossible. Finding the AWCA DLP allows me to continue my training, even to the point that now I always create a study group any time I’m stationed somewhere new.
All military members should give the AWCA program a try. No matter where you go, you always have the AWCA with you.

Feedback & Testing
The AWCA has been working with online members since the early 1990′s when a 96k dial-up modem was the fastest Internet connection you could get at that time. Technology continued to grow and, unlike others, we continued to grow with it.
Today you have the option of personal webcam sessions or creating your own videos for private feedback results. You can also gain valuable feedback from your Wing Chun brothers and sisters around the world via our private bulletin board. For submitting feedback and testing directly to Si-Fu Phil:
- All feedback can be accomplished via webcam sessions or creating videos. Videos can be submitted through DVD and postal mail, small videos through email, or placing them on a secured hosting service such as Dropbox.
- All testing is accomplished via webcam sessions or creating videos. As with feedback submissions, videos can be submitted through DVD and postal mail, small videos through email, or placing them on a secured hosting service such as Dropbox.
Feedback is always recommended during your training to ensure that you are on the right track. Some have opted not to take advantage of that, only later to find that during testing they were performing a movement incorrectly and ended up not passing their test. Therefore, I always recommend that you submit feedback videos or schedule a private webcam session to ensure that everything is progressing as it should.
A Note to Experienced Practitioners
A program such as this is a great solution to what many practitioners around the world have hoped for. Not only is it convenient because it is online, but it also closes a gap for those looking to increase their skill sets with a recognized organization.
Naturally, however, there are many who already possess a certain skill level, and they have questions regarding how the training would progress for them since they are already familiar with Wing Chun up to a particular point. So let me tell you how we approach this.
Every school has their own unique way of training and teaching, so what I pass on is how it was taught to me. In that light, I have also introduced extended concepts from a variety of colleagues and masters along my journey.
Regardless of where or how anyone has learned previously, all AWCA practitioners must be versed in our curriculum and training method. Therefore, even if you have completed the Wing Chun system in its entirety at another school, I must still ensure that you are versed in our curriculum.
To that end, videos of your current skill set must be submitted for review in order to evaluate where in our ranking system you would placed, as well as what needs to be worked on in order to become versed in the AWCA Wing Chun training methods.
If you have learned all of the empty-hand curriculums, the wooden dummy, and the weapons, you would submit videos of your training for review. It is not to tell you what is right or wrong; instead, it is solely to inspect what you know, how well you know it, and what needs to happen in order to get you into the correct curriculum for our training.
Not all Wing Chun schools have such a structured curriculum, so even after years of consistent training, a high level instructor might find him or herself in a lower position with our program. It is not because we are better than anyone; rather, it is because we have a step-by-step curriculum with specific points at each level and a set way of passing on that program. Depending on how close your previous training is to what we do and how we do it, that will determine where in our program you would fall into.
Also, this ensures that all practitioners representing the AWCA actually possess the skills they claim to possess, as well as ensuring that the AWCA curriculum is being passed on correctly and completely.

Officially-recognized Ranking & Certification
All members of the AWCA are one family, regardless of where in the world we happen to be living, working and training. Therefore, we make no distinction between a student personally here and a student in our distance program. Unlike other schools, all AWCA rank recognition is standard throughout our organization.
As a member progresses, he/she can be certified in all teaching levels and can also be recognized to start their own officially-recognized AWCA branch.
Annual AWCA Training Camps
AWCA members have the option of attending our two yearly training camps in Phoenix (West Coast Training Camp) and Pennsylvania (East Coast Training Camp). These are closed camps and are not open to the public. They are made available only to AWCA members so that our members can get to us for personal and group training.
30 Day No-Questions-Asked Money Back Guarantee
Take the AWCA Distance Learning Program for a test spin for a full 30 days! If you are not completely satisfied, simply cancel your subscription within 30 days. You will receive a complete refund, no questions asked. No muss, no fuss and no hard feelings.
Registration & Fees
Registration and monthly fees are cost-effective in their own right, but even more so when you consider what personal training in a gym would cost.
Gym training can vary from $75 per month and as high as $120 a month (with some schools charging even more). And that does not take into account what it costs in the time getting there and back, the money spent for gas, or the time away from your family training.
For one month’s fees at a gym, this is equivalent to four months of fees with the AWCA Distance Learning Program. Pretty amazing, huh?
And unlike other schools, there are also no contracts by enrolling in the AWCA DLP. I do not believe in contracts. You are here because of your dedication and commitment to learning Wing Chun, not because you have to be.
Before the AWCA DLP, I was paying $90.00 a month with a contract that I couldn’t get out of. Because of an illness, I could no longer train yet I was still being charged. After it was over and I was better, I found the AWCA. After just a couple of months, I learned even more with Si-Fu Phil than I did at the previous school. Thanks, Si-Fu Phil, for making such a program available and affordable!
